All containers must have an Iowa 5 cent stamp in order to be redeemed.

(Water bottles and out-of-state containers have no redeemable value in Iowa.)

Public Walk-In (3 Ways)

ESTIMATING: Redeemable cans, plastic bottles and glass bottles need to be separated into proper containers before we estimate. Bag holders and bags are provided at Metro for you to separate items here but we strongly encourage you to do this at home as there is limited space in our building. Cans, 2-liter plastics and all other size plastics should be put in their own separate can bags; don’t mix product. Glass always must be put in a box or container, never a bag. We will not accept bags that have glass in them due to an employee danger with broken glass. The general rule for how many goes in a bag is as follows:

Cans - 240 per can bag

Plastics (2 liter) - 40 per can bag

Plastics (all other sizes can be mixed) - 144 per can bag

This makes it easier for our employees to get an accurate estimate.  Can bags (liners) can be purchased at Metro for $.50 and you can also purchase can boxes that hold the bag liners for $15.00. This is the fastest walk-in process and you receive your money immediately. Signature required when receiving payment.

Limit 8 can bags worth per day/per vehicle. (Limits are subject to change during spring and summer months.) If you have more than 8 of the large bags, we would be happy to set up an appointment for you to drop-off.

DROP-OFF: Containers can be mixed and brought in whatever size bag you choose. The larger the bag the better - up to 55 gallons. (Glass must still be in boxes.) We will count them at a later time. This process may take up to 3 or 4 days and you’ll have to return to get payment after we notify you by phone call or text. Large amounts can have checks written and mailed if not convenient for you to return. This is a more accurate count of cans/bottles and glass. Signature required when receiving payment. Limit 8 can bags worth per day.

PUT IN FLATS: Customer puts cans or plastics in flats (we provide) that hold 24. Ten flats of cans for 1 full bag. Six flats of plastics for 1 full bag. Most accurate but time consuming. We don’t help customers flat their cans. Paid immediately. Signature required when receiving payment.

Any bags purchased from us will be replaced free of charge when you return it in reusable condition.

A T T E N T I O N

There will be charges deducted from your total for excess garbage and liquid. Please make sure what you bring is relatively clean.

We reserve the right to refuse containers that are filthy and disgusting. Iowa law states containers must be reasonably clean.

Anyone verbally abusive to our employees will be asked to leave and never return.

If you are disabled or elderly and need help with the process, please ask, we would be more than happy to help.

Commercial Businesses

Metro Area Redemption currently has openings for new commercial accounts in the surrounding area. Please contact us for more information at (319-277-4518). There are guidelines that need to be explained to new customers such as: minimum amounts, types of products we pick up, how containers should be bagged/boxed up and pick-up charges. We can set you up on a scheduled route or single pick-ups as needed (call-in basis).

Commercial businesses can also make an appointment to drop-off their containers. Eliminates pick-up charge. Usually a 2-week cycle until payment is made.

Can Drives for Various Fundraising or Charitable Endeavors (2 Ways)

Metro Area Redemption is more than happy to help with all types of fundraising projects through can and bottle donations. This is an excellent way for groups to make money with very little effort.

Drop-Off: Attention Event Planners: Before scheduling a can drive fundraising date, please contact us in advance to see what dates are open. Large organized can drives need to make sure the date is available to drop-off containers. (If you have a place to store them for awhile then we can work around any date you’ve picked out.) Arrangements can be made to pick-up can drives but there will be a fee to do so. Drop-offs can be scheduled during the week or on Saturday if available. There are some guidelines to follow:

  • The actual can drive must be off-site from Metro Redemption, you can’t hold your can drive on our property. We are available to only take in your donations when can-drive is done. You must haul bags and boxes in trucks or trailers to our business.

  • Our can bags/liners must be used for redeemable cans and plastics (separate product if possible).

  • All glass must be boxed (no glass in bags).

  • Bags are $.50 each and are refunded when returned in reusable condition. Boxes will be provided for you if needed.

Ongoing-Can Drive: Organizations can set-up can drives through our public walk-in system where individuals can drop-off containers at anytime for the designated can drive. A running total will be kept until payment needs to be made. These kind of can drives can run for months. Just let our customer service employees know when bringing in containers who they’re designated for. This kind of can drive needs to be set-up through the office first. Stop by or call and we will help you out.

When calling please leave a message. Our employees, including owners, are all out working and no one is in the office. We will return your call ASAP.

We have a donation cage outside our building - close to the public walk-in door. Any containers left in this will be donated to a charity of our choice. We have given to cancer patients, Pre-Born, Hope Ministries, Salvation Army, animal shelters and sites that provide meals to families. Drop-off anytime day or night.

Did you know aluminum is infinitely recyclable. Aluminum and all metals can be recycled over and over again because they don’t lose structural integrity the way paper and plastics do. Most recycled cans are turned back into new cans in a continuous, renewable loop. A recycled aluminum can typically goes from the recycling center to the grocery store shelf as a new can in about 60 days.
